rdio
I launched rdio yesterday (for the first time that day), only to notice the above. At first I thought, “wow what a beautiful accident”, thinking part of the theme hadn’t rendered. Then I noticed how well it worked, and thought, “what a shame it isn’t always that way”.

Luckily, I went to their site to find (after relaunching the app several times just to make sure) that it was intentional.

It’s lovely. I can’t describe how much I love and respect design without any overt gradients, shadows, or shinyness. It’s a design with clarity, so kudos rdio.

Now if only other apps would follow this practice. (At the top of my wish list would be Apple, who is stricken with skeuomorphism-itus.)
